Women’s Clothing in the 1920s

After World War I, fashion trends have changed and developed to be more comfortable and androgynous. Women started to work and began to take on the roles that men have been first known to perform. Because of women joined the thriving workforce, the women of the 20’s started to wear more comfortable clothing which is very different from the corsets and heavy, restricted clothing that they used to wear.

During the 1920’s, women fashion trends had been very stylish but not form-fitting. The flowing and loose dresses and blouses appeared unflattering but still achieved the comfort needed by women to suit the nature of their work.

The changing and evolving role of the women during the 20’s brought forward new ideas in fashion for women. The 20’s fashion is the start of modernity and more stylish clothing for women. Although clothing remained conservative, short skirts with pleats and slits and sleeveless blouses started to gain popularity. As working women of the 1920’s, knee-length skirts and men’s pants became part of the popular fashion trends. There was also a change in the color choices of clothing for women during this era because women became fond of wearing light colored clothes and this period also started mixing and matching shades.

In addition to this, there are specific pieces that complete the 20’s fashion for women such as the head pieces, dresses, and accessories. The feather hat and cloche hat have been used by women in this period. Those who are very conscious of their hairdo prefer using a bandeau.  A layer of long necklaces complement a silky or glittery dress that completed a woman’s outfit.

The 1920’s was filled with new trends and fashion for women. It had been a very significant period because this was the time when women started to embrace a new and more stylish set of wardrobe.
