Working on an industrial site that regularly gets dusty, so much so that it is difficult to breathe and to see, there is a requirement to have a good system in place to suppress the dust. A dust control spray is a useful system to have on the worksite with a high-pressure misting system providing the kind of weapon needed to quell the boiling dust.
A dust control spray system consists of a network of water pipes that are erected around the perimeter of the worksite with misting nozzles positioned at regular intervals. These nozzles have a very small hole that disperses the water in very fine droplets. These droplets measure around 10 microns in size and for them to work effectively they must be around the same size as the dust particles they are meant to suppress.
When the mist is released into the air it will float around for a while and in that time the dust particles are drawn to the droplets where they combine. The water and dust combination becomes too heavy to remain in the air so it falls to the floor clearing the air in a very short amount of time.
This system is quite a low cost one because the amount of water used is insignificant and the energy used to generate the water flow is also very low. As an added benefit the production of the mist also acts as a cooling system turning what might otherwise be a hot work site becomes quite a cool and comfortable one.
These misting systems are already in place in quite a few industries where the presence of dust in common and the suppression is a necessity. These sites include mines and cement producers but also extend to other industries as well. Although it is unlikely a dust suppression system is required at a domestic level a misting system that provides cooling qualities would be welcome in numerous circumstances.
