These days a lot of couples are moving away from many of the more traditional practices that surround the subject of courtship. One such tradition that has previously lasted for a very long time is the offering of a simple, but beautiful, yellow gold diamond ring when a man proposes to his potential bride-to-be. More often nowadays, couples look to do things differently, wanting their engagement and subsequent wedding to be as unique as they possibly can be, rather than following what everybody else has done, without putting any real thought into it. One of the ways of bringing a marriage proposal up to date is with a two tone engagement ring.
Two tone engagement rings are fairly self-explanatory; they are rings which comprise two different metal bands, each of a different color. The two metals are commonly variations on gold. So a good example is a two tone ring made with white gold and yellow gold, and being an engagement ring, there is usually a gemstone, or several small gemstones set into the band.
It is so frequently the case that engagement rings are all about the diamond; the size of it, or the cut, or the carat weight. With two tone rings, it is possible to highlight the beauty of the precious metal band itself. For this reason, it is always a good idea to be on the lookout for new designs, as artists in the jewelry business are always trying to create something innovative. You might prefer to opt for a Celtic design, or a wonderfully ornate filigree ring, both of which would be much better than two overlapping plain bands of different colors.
You will have to shop around and see what options are available for two tone engagement rings, until you find the ideal one. There are several variations on the usual yellow gold, and the colors depend on what else is mixed with it and in what quantity. So for a subtle two tone ring, you might wish to select one which comprises two different carat values; this would product a ring with two slightly different shades of yellow.
Alternatively, you might like maximum contrast, in which case you might want to have a ring which features a white gold band mingling with a rose gold or a yellow gold one. There are so many options to choose from, and that’s before you even start thinking about the possibilities for the gemstone. After all, if you are going down the unconventional route, you may decide to dispense with the idea of diamonds, and pick something altogether more unusual or unique. A one of a kind ring for a one of a kind girl!
