An electric drum set is a percussion instrument in which the sound is generated by electric. These are very compact, lightweight, portable and will even fit in a small car unlike the old heavy drum sets that are heavy and awkward and usually too much trouble to pack and set up again.
There are different types of electronic drums, all of which vary in pricing. The basic inexpensive drum set is more for amateurs but you can purchase some that are of better quality for the professional player. You will need to purchase a amplifier or a headset with the electronic set. You can also change your tone and texture so you can have different sound qualities. These also work great in a recording studio because you will no longer have to worry about drum microphones and you can plug these directly into the mixer.
Have neighbors that always complain about the noise of your old drums or driving your parents crazy with them? With the electronic drums you can plug right into your computer and record your rhythms and play as hard as you want with the volume turned on as low as you want. The electronic drum pads are capable of making thousands of different sounds on the snare drum, bass drum and even the cymbal.
Keeping these clean are so much easier than the old acoustic drums because of the rubber like pads, just simply wipe with a damp cloth. You will also no longer need to worry about tuning your drums. with these all you need to do is program the sound you want. It does take awhile to get use to playing these but once you do and learn all the different styles and features I really dont think you will want to go back to the acoustic drums.
