Tarot Meaning: Read The Tarot Major Arcana

If your goal when it comes to Tarot Cards is to become adept at reading them and intuiting their meaning for yourself and others, then you have to learn how the Tarot Deck is organized. The first and most important level of organization is at the level of the Major Arcana and the Minor Arcana. These two sets of cards compose a full deck. The meaning – and the importance attached to the meaning – of each card changes depending on which group you are looking it.

The Major Arcana are composed of a total of twenty two cards. They are numbered from zero to twenty one, and are sometimes known as the Trump Cards. Like all Tarot Cards, each of the major arcana has its own illustration, and it is by concentrating on this picture that the card’s meaning becomes most readily available.

Everyone wants to know what is this Tarot Card meaning? What does that Tarot Card signify?

It’s a fair question, but misleading. In fact, it is close to impossible to answer. Tarot Card readings are unique and distinctive events – the meaning of a given card is altered by the other cards that appear beside it. The subject of the reading can also impact the card’s meaning.

So should you avoid trying to get a general sense of each card’s overall meaning? Not at all. There are general inferences that we can make. For example, take a look at the Hanged Man, number twelve in the Major Arcana. The card features a man strung upside down – but his face is lit up with a soft and gentle smile. In a general way, this card stands for the acceptance of our fates, rolling with the punches, letting life hand us what it wants to hand us and being okay with it. We maintain our serenity through flexibility.

However, that card’s general meaning can become quite specific in the reading. If the querent (the person for whom the reading is being done) is trying to figure out how to deal with major changes in her persona life, the appearance of the Hanged Man can signify the importance of simply accepting the craziness instead of trying to alter it or take major steps away from it.

Study the Major Arcana cards! They are accorded more weight in the reading than their counterparts, the Minor Arcana. Learn to let them speak to you, and your Tarot interpretation skills will increase dramatically.
