An Outdoor Braided Rug for Your Garden

The idea of adding a rug to the garden would have seemed very strange to the original makers of the braided rug. The history of these rugs goes way back to the time of the first settlers and each rug was the result of a lot of work, joining and braiding strips of old clothing. Often it was one of the few items giving color and comfort to a drab home and would certainly not have been left outside.

Whereas in those days rugs would have been made mainly of cotton strips (as most of the clothes were cotton) you can now get braided rugs in all sorts of materials including synthetics which makes them more suitable for outdoor use.

But why would you want to put a rug in your garden? An outdoor braided rug ties in with us using our gardens more as living spaces, and a rug adds comfort underfoot and reduces noise as well as providing decoration to the patio or deck.

Good quality rugs are made from shrink and fade-resistant fabric to withstand the elements and they are washable too as outdoor rugs tend to get dirtier than most.

When choosing an outdoor rug you could have a color theme for your patio, perhaps tying in with your choice of furniture and patio cushions and look for a braided rug in that color perhaps with one other. Or you could decide to go with the multi-color nature of a garden and choose a rug in many colors (which is how they were originally made from the various colored materials which were to hand at the time of making).

As for shape, you can either choose an area rug for your patio or deck or a runner type rug which is quite useful placed in front of the door into your garden to cut down noise near your home especially if you have kids running in and out.
