Choosing Kitchen Storage Canisters

I like variety in my home, and having a wide variety of kitchen storage canisters is part of that habit of mine. I have a collection of nice canisters, ugly used canisters, Rubbermaid bowls I’ve bought over the years, and butter bowls I’ve kept for leftovers. Here is what I’ve found when looking to expand my collection.

Really the only thing I ask of my kitchen storage canisters is that they keep my food fresh, which thankfully isn’t too difficult to get right. Butter bowls, for example, seal tightly and work great for leftovers, which I wouldn’t be keeping for very long anyway. For longer storage, I have a massive collection of plastic bowls, all of which serve the same purpose as the butter bowl. If I want to go a little higher class than those, but still want to keep it cheap, I find glass to be a good alternative to have on hand. Modern day glass containers usually come with a sealable lid too, to keep the food especially fresh.

When I want to go really high end though, I use my special stonewear containers. I like them because they feel good, if you get that. They are heavy in a way that makes them feel high quality, and when I have people over inevitably they look to see what’s inside them. So it’s nice to know that if I need to have some sort of centerpiece to my table (or counter?) that stonewear is the way to go with it.

When it comes to storage in the kitchen, there are few things that I ask for besides keeping food as fresh as possible. Style tends to be secondary to this need. But at the same time, having some nice kitchen storage canisters makes my kitchen look nice, draws people in, and serves me well all the same. I suggest you do some designing of your own next time you are shopping.
